“Redskins” To Be Sacked?

Yesterday, a group of Native Americans filed a petition with the Supreme Court, seeking a ruling that the National Football League’s Washington Redskins is an invalid (and offensive) trademark.

The case was been winding its way through the court system for seventeen years. In 1999, the plaintiffs won a temporary victory before a U.S. Patent and Trademark panel, but have faced several legal setbacks ever since — including a defense that they waited too long to bring their claim.
