Inauguration a Productivity Boost?
If you’re looking around right now wondering why no one’s working, you’re not alone. Employers all over the country are allowing — any many are encouraging — employees to participate in Inauguration Day events.
But don’t despair. According to productivity experts, allowing employees to participate in the events may actually boost productivity by fostering enthusiasm in workplaces beaten down by uncertainty, insecurity and RIFs.
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) reports that nearly 5% of companies are closed in anticipation of today’s events. Many employers (Manpower included) are throwing parties and encouraging employees to watch the festivities on big-screen TVs in conference rooms.
As one employer put it: “This is almost going to be like a national holiday,” said Mitch Goldstone, CEO of ScanMyPhotos.com. “We’re closing down regular business so everyone can watch. We wanted to have a big party. This is so much more important than productivity.”
