Daily Dose of Dumb: Annoying Coworkers Got You Down?

As part of our never-ending quest to keep you informed of the latest HR tools, trends and technology to help reduce your legal liability, we stumbled across a web site called annoyingcoworker.com.

Basically, the site enables visitors to send anonymous emails notifying coworkers of any habits they find annoying.  The messages are then posted for all the world to see.

Here’s the most recent example:

Hey, lookie lookie, you broke the photocopier AGAIN and just walked away like nothing happened! I would never want you to strain yourself by actually paying attention when I show you how to fix it for the 8 millionth time. I know that whopping 3 possible problems it could ever be are tough to solve. Don’t be shocked when I wipe my toner stained fingers on your shirt! And newsflash, everyone knows it’s you because when we pull the offending paper out of the machine, your name is usually on it!

As I scanned the messages, I found myself wondering whether this tool would help reduce workplace conflict or perhaps have the opposite effect.  Most of the messages were similar to the one above, replete with multiple exclamation points, creative insults and threats of bodily harm.

I decided to conduct a highly scientific experiment to assess the tool’s effectiveness.  I could think of no better way than to send an email to the person in my workplace that tends to annoy me more than anyone else:  namely, me.

Pulling up the handy form, I typed in a message detailing all my distasteful habits in graphic detail and then hit “send.”

My scientific conclusions?  It’s now 47 minutes later and my message still hasn’t arrived.  Once it does, I’ll chronicle its effects and let you know whether it helped me peacefully resolve my conflicts with myself.

Stay tuned.

It’s now approximately 1,671 minutes later and still no response. Guess I’ll have to find another way to talk to myself about my annoying habits.
