Westminster redux

Last year after Westminster we talked about how the dogs were judged, but the judges weren’t judgemental.  A lesson we could all learn.

This year I am struck by the amazing diversity of entrants at the Westminster dog show.  When it comes to dogs, we accept the differences.  They are long, short, tall, fat, drooling, hairy (or not), black, white, yellow, red, blue, cocky, charismatic, quiet, dopey, droopy – I could go on and on (Did you see that Pekingese?  And how about that Dogue de Bordeaux?).

If you turn the tables, they love us no matter what our shape, size or color.  They accept their fate with grace.  They do not feel entitled to anything (but food, perhaps).  And they respect their space, with the occasional accident (which I always forgive).

Here’s my point.  When it comes to dogs, we accept it all.  When it comes to people, we look at the differences and use those differences to separate ourselves from each other.  So let’s take a lesson from the dogs.

If you look closely, you’ll see that they seem much happier than we are!

And congratulations to Stump the Sussex — Best in Show!!  If I could figure out how to walk three at a time, I’d get one tomorrow.
